The Foundation Programme at Manjushri KMC provides an opportunity for residents and non-residents to engage in systematic study and meditation on the essential subjects of modern Buddhism based on five books by Venerable Geshe Kelsang Gyatso. Participants enrol for one book at a time.
The emphasis in the classes, which consist of teachings, meditation, and discussion, is on gaining practical experience of Buddha’s teachings that you can apply to your daily life.
Gen-la Kelsang Thubten is a senior Teacher of Modern Buddhism who has been a disciple of Venerable Geshe Kelsang Gyatso for forty years and was the principal editor for many of his books.
Having taught internationally for many years, Gen-la brings a wealth of practical and meditative experience to his teachings.
He is renowned for his ability to present the many deep meanings contained within Venerable Geshe-la’s books and to show how to integrate these meanings into daily life.
Gen-la teaches the Special Teacher Training Programme and the Foundation Programme at Manjushri KMC.
The subjects covered
The present book being studied is The New Heart of Wisdom, a commentary to the Heart Sutra.
The other books are:
How to Understand the Mind, an explanation of the types of mind
Joyful Path of Good Fortune, an explanation of the stages of the path to enlightenment
Universal Compassion and The New Eight Steps to Happiness, an explanation of the practices of Training the Mind (lojong)
Guide to the Bodhisattva’s Way of Life, based on the commentary Meaningful to Behold.
Study and practise the essential Lamrim meditations of modern Buddhism with Gen-la Thubten.
Gen-la Thubten will be teaching Part 2 of The New Heart of Wisdom from April 23 – July 2, 2017. This section covers all the essential meditations of Kadam Lamrim.
