Conishead Priory Historic House

Guided tours at weekends and bank holidays

Manjushri KMC is based at Conishead Priory, a rambling Romantic Gothic mansion with 70 acres of gardens and woodland.

From a hospital for the poor founded in 1160 by Augustinian monks to a modern-day Buddhist centre, Conishead Priory has a long history of healing and spiritual activity.

The present building was completed by the Braddyll family in 1836. It was rescued from dereliction in the 1977 and is being painstakingly restored by the Buddhist community, who have also constructed the magnificent Temple for World Peace in the grounds.

Enjoy a unique day out. Visit the Temple, café and shop, enjoy the gardens, or simply stroll through the woods to the beach on Morecambe Bay. Try a free simple 15 minute meditation and experience inner peace. Starting in the Temple at 12.30 and 2.00pm.

Guided Tours at Weekends and Bank Holidays

You could also take a guided tour with a Buddhist resident. Starts in the Temple watching a fascinating DVD of the history of Conishead Priory and Modern Buddhism. Be inspired by the Temple, hear about the daily life of modern Buddhists, and how Conishead has now become the hub of a worldwide network of Kadampa Centres. Ends with discovering the highlights of the historic family house.

2.30pm on Weekends and Bank Holidays - starts in the Temple. Lasts 1¼ hours.

Adults £3.60, children free, please buy tickets from the shop.

We also have pre-booked Guided Tours for Adult Group Visits on weekdays.
