The Special Teacher Training Programme at Manjushri KMC

Introduction

The Special Teacher Training Programme in Kadampa Buddhism (STTP), was designed by Venerable Geshe Kelsang Gyatso Rinpoche primarily to train qualified teachers of Kadampa Buddhism, with special emphasis on training Resident Teachers for Kadampa centres around the world.
The programme is taught at Manjushri KMC by Kadam Neil Elliott.

Study and meditation

The core of the programme is the study and meditation classes held at Manjushri KMC.

These classes are based on the books of Venerable Geshe Kelsang Gyatso Rinpoche, which explain all the essential meanings of Buddha’s Sutra and Tantra teachings.

The purpose of the study component of the classes is to enable students to gain an understanding of the deep meanings of Buddha’s teachings and learn how to apply them to modern daily life.

The purpose of the meditation component is to enable the student to gain practical experience of the meaning of the teachings.

The programme emphasises both components equally because qualified teachers need both deep understanding and practical experience of the teachings.

Other components of the programme

In addition to the study and meditation classes those who attend the classes at Manjushri Centre also enjoy:

  • Retreats on the subjects studied
  • Retreats on Kadam Lamrim and Tantric preliminary practices
  • Teaching skills classes and day courses
  • Opportunities for teaching practice as part of Manjushri KMC’s education programme

There will be 5 weeks of STTP retreat throughout the year that will be open for everyone to attend, those studying in the live class and also those on the correspondence course can take part in these retreats that will be guided by Kadam Neil. There will also be 4 weeks of guided retreat each January, next year in January 2017 Kadam Neil will be guiding the first 2 weeks as a Mahamudra retreat.
